Andrew Carnegie once said, "he who dies rich dies disgraced." Every great business leader always remembers to give back to the community. MVFBLA fosters this spirit of contribution through the Community Service project. Each year, the chapter plans and implements a unique project to benefit the community in some way. Past projects have included teaching ESL classes, a campaign to promote healthy living, and a community art canvas.
Aside from the benefits to the community that this project provides, it also gives MVFBLA members experience in hands-on planning and leadership. By participating in the various project committees, either as leads or members, our members can gain a unique experience in planning community service projects that is unparalleled with any other organization on campus.
MVFBLA'S CS project this year will be the Earthquake Awareness Program, which will mainly promote awareness of earthquakes around California, specifically in the Bay Area, and to further prepare in an event of an earthquake. We believe that this cause is extremely important because recent research shows that we are entering another period of frequent and larger earthquakes.
Many Cupertino residents are not aware of the city’s earthquake safety procedures and therefore we aim to educate our community with this project, potentially saving many lives. We plan to work the Cupertino City Council to conduct seminars, emergency drills as well as many other activities to make this year a fantastic learning experience.
